About Us

Steve Fugate, Owner
Steve Fugate is the founder and owner of Green World Biofuels. Steve lives with his wife Wende and children Maizy and Zeus outside Iowa City on their acreage. Steve gained notoriety as the general manager and 25 year veteran of the Hamburg Inn #2, an immensely popular little diner on the outskirts of The University of Iowa. Steve is also the founder of Yoderville Biodiesel Cooperative, a small group of dedicated renewable energy enthusiasts that set up shop in his shed during the spring of 2004 to investigate community based biodiesel production. Images of their efforts can be viewed at www.ybdc.org. Steve has become an internationally recognized speaker on biodiesel, sustainability, and cooperative development with dozens of speaking engagements to his credit. After conducting numerous workshops and building many processors Steve decided to form a company based on supplying consumers with the know how and ability to produce their own fuel from locally available restaurant waste.
Wende Fugate, Co-Owner
Wende Fugate is a local book artist and student at the University of Iowa’s Center for the Book. Wende has lived in Iowa for the past 11 years on a small farm right outside of Iowa City with her husband Steve and their two children Maizy and Zeus. Aside from art, Wende is interested in renewable energy and doing her part to help the environment. She is an active member of the Yoderville Biodiesel Cooperative, where she helps wash and dry many gallons of biodiesel a week. She also works with her husband, Steve, building processors and managing the office at Green World Biofuels.

Maizy & Zeus Fugate
Maizy and Zeus Fugate have attended numerous renewable energy events over the past few years and have been a great help in the shop.
